The three Dipstick founders laughing together on a Lake Erie dock

About Dipstick

Three grown men. Nobody to say no.

The group chat became a company. We’re all dealing with it.

Some companies start in a boardroom. Ours started with three buddies on an island in Lake Erie, providing unsolicited commentary on other people’s docking skills. Somehow, this became a business.

A surprisingly useful idea from this particular group

No ropes. No bumpers.
Outstanding confidence.

Three buddies were watching jet skiers come back to the dock. One group after another had remembered the jet ski and forgotten the part where you attach it to land. No ropes. No bumpers. Just horsepower and optimism. Now, three friends sitting on a dock could have minded their own business. Unfortunately for everyone within earshot, that department was closed. Between the commentary came an actual idea: what if you could hand someone the stuff they were about to discover they needed? Not another gift that lives in a drawer. A box that says, “We love you. We have concerns. Here’s some equipment.” That became Dipstick Starter Kits: useful things for first cars, first houses, new babies, and people who have recently promoted themselves to Grill Master. The joke gets the box opened. The useful stuff earns it a place in their life.

The Department of We Know a Guy

Three founders. Zero openings for an adult supervisor.

The honorary executive team:

Chief “That’ll Work” Officer

Sees a problem. Has a solution. Has already started before anyone asks what the solution is.

Chief “I Know a Guy” Officer

Has a contact for everything. Occasionally, that contact is one of the other two.

Chief “How Hard Can It Be?” Officer

Asks the question that turns a quiet afternoon into a story nobody is allowed to tell at Thanksgiving.

Collectively: enough answers to start a company. Not enough supervision to stop them.

Built for the big moments

They got the keys.

The road just got interesting.

They bought the house.

The landlord is now them.

They had the baby.

Sleep had a good run.

They took the tongs.

Dinner is in their hands.

Dick, the Dipstick Kits spokesperson

Their most questionable hire

Meet Dick.

Dick. Chief “I’ve Got This” Officer.

The founders needed a spokesman who shared their confidence, respected their process, and wouldn’t ask to see a business plan. Enter Dick.

He’s the only employee hired to make the founders look responsible. He doesn’t read the instructions. He provides the before footage.

The guys come up with the kits. Dick demonstrates why the world needs them. You give the gift and take the credit. Finally, a corporate structure that makes sense.

The joke is on the box.
The useful stuff is inside.

A gift that gets a laugh—and gets used.

About Us

LIFE DOESN’T COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS.

So we made starter kits instead.

Dipstick Starter Kits started with a simple idea: big life moments are exciting, but they also come with a lot of “what the hell do I do now?” moments.

Whether someone just got the keys to their first car, bought a house, brought home a baby, or somehow got put in charge of the grill, Dipstick Kits gives them a box filled with things they’ll actually use, plus a little humor to help them figure it out.

FOR THE MOMENTS NOBODY PREPARES YOU FOR.

First baby. First car. First house. First time being trusted with the grill. Somehow, they let you do it. We’re just here to make sure you have a few of the things you’ll need when you realize you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.

USEFUL STUFF. QUESTIONABLE HUMOR. ONE REALLY GOOD GIFT.

We wanted these kits to be funny without being useless. Every box combines practical items with funny extras, packaging, and little details that make opening the gift part of the experience.
